Defense Minister Benny Gantz blamed Syria Tuesday for a number of mines that had been planted within Israeli territory near the border, which were disarmed by IDF forces.
“For a long time, we have been prepared for the possibility of attacks on the northern frontier,” Gantz said during a tour of the border and security briefing.
“The IDF has the capabilities and determination to respond severely to any incident, whether from Lebanon or Syria.”
Addressing the mines, he said, “I would like to clearly state — Syria is responsible for what happens in its territory.”
“We cannot ignore this issue,” he added.
