The IDF announced Thursday that 81% of its soldiers are at least a week away from their second vaccine dose or have recovered from coronavirus.
"The IDF has become the first military in the world to reach herd immunity," said Maj. Gen. Itzik Turgeman, the head of the military’s Technology and Logistics Directorate.
Some 8% of IDF soldiers are still classified as "vaccine refusers" due to several reasons, including worries over side effects or female soldiers who are in the first trimester of their pregnancy.
The army estimated that thousands of additional soldiers will be vaccinated in the coming weeks.
