In conversation with Netanyahu, France's Macron urges 'return to peace'

French President Emmanuel Macron urged a return to peace between Israel and the Palestinians during a telephone conversation on Friday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a statement issued after the conversation, Macron said that Israel has the right to defend itself, and expressed concern about the plight of the civilian population in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
