Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday called Yamina leader Naftali Bennett and New Hope leader Gideon Saar to meet with him to agree on a rightwing coalition. Netanyahu offered his two former allies turned rivals, a three way power sharing agreement that would allow Saar to be the first prime minister in a rotation of the position, an offer Saar has already rejected.
"These are critical times," Netanyahu said in a Facebook post. "Personal considerations must be put aside. I, along with the leaders of the ultra-Orthodox parties and the Religious Zionist party have signed a far-reaching proposal for Bennett and Saar to be able to join us in a stable and strong coalition government. Come and meet me immediately," Netanyahu wrote.
Centrist Yair Lapid was in the final stages of preparing to introduce a so-called coalition for change that would include the Yamina and New Hope parties, before his mandate to form a government expires later this week.
