Likud claims Lapid cannot name different PM after he was given mandate to form government

|
The Likud party on Tuesday claimed Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid has no authority to name Naftali Bennett as the prime minister of his pending government after he was given the mandate to form a coalition.
The party said in a letter to President Reuven Rivlin and Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit that only Lapid was authorized to head a new governemnt under the law.
Likud also demanded that when Lapid announces he has succeeded in forming a new coalition, he inform the president of its makeup before his mandate expires at midnight on Wednesday.
