Israeli backpacker arrested after smoking cigarette in South American nature reserve

|
An Israeli backpacker was arrested and subsequently charged with violating forestry laws after lighting a cigarette in the Dixon camp area within Torres del Paine National Park in Chile – a protected natural area where any heat source is strictly prohibited. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when an employee of Vértice, the concession company operating at the site, photographed the tourist during the prohibited act. The park staff immediately reported the incident to the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) and the Chilean police, which led to his arrest.
