2022 Soldier Drowning at Resort: Lifeguards Charged with Negligent Manslaughter

|
The State Prosecutor's Office filed charges at the Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court against Freedom Vacation and Sports Ltd., company manager Asaf Ben Haim, and two lifeguards - Yochanan Lavia and Nissim Ben Simon - for the negligent death of a 19-year-old soldier who drowned at the Soldiers' Welfare Association resort swimming pool in 2022. According to the indictment, the lifeguards abandoned their designated post and moved to an improvised, distant position. The soldier drowned without their notice, and was only pulled from the water 23 minutes later - but resuscitation attempts failed. All defendants are charged with negligent manslaughter.
