IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir conducted a tour and situation assessment in southern Gaza City together with Southern Command commander Maj. Gen. Yaniv Ashor and other officers, saying: "We are operating in the Gaza Strip with large forces, focusing on attacking Gaza City to create conditions for the release of the hostages and the defeat of Hamas." He added: "Most of Gaza's population has already left the city, and we are moving them southward for their protection." The Chief of Staff addressed Gaza residents and called: "Rebel and separate from Hamas - they are responsible for your suffering. The war and suffering will end if Hamas releases the hostages and gives up its weapons."
