Fighter jets scrambled toward plane en route to Israel after hijacking alert - pilot retracts

|
A passenger plane operated by Electra Airways flying to Israel under LOT Polish Airlines turned around mid-flight after two Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled toward it. The pilot, according to reports, pressed the button alerting authorities to a hijacking. The plane was flying from Warsaw and sent the hijacking alert over Turkish airspace. It then flew over Cyprus and turned back after being denied landing permission in Cyprus. Senior aviation officials view the incident as highly unusual and dangerous, and an immediate investigation will be launched.
