Turkey: Widespread arrests of opposition members, 47 warrants issued

|
Turkish law enforcement agencies ordered the arrest of several opposition party members in Istanbul, as police raided local authorities managed by opposition figures. This is another step in a chain of events that began with the arrest and disqualification of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu - considered President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's main rival - from running for presidency. The Anadolu news agency reported that arrest warrants were issued for 47 people in four separate bribery investigations, with 28 already arrested. Among those detained are a former parliament member, mayors and senior Istanbul municipality officials.
