Tennessee Governor Bill Lee ordered a halt to all executions scheduled in the state through the end of the year following the botched execution of 50-year-old Christa Pike. Earlier, it was reported that Tennessee authorities failed to complete Pike's execution, who was convicted of murdering a young woman in 1995. According to eyewitnesses, after apparently receiving two doses of pentobarbital, Pike remained alive and was still partially conscious more than 40 minutes after the final dose—and authorities stopped the procedure. The governor also ordered an investigation into the attempted execution of Pike.
