Chief Justice: 'Maybe We Should Remove Two Politicians from Judicial Selection Committee, Not Lawyers'

|
Supreme Court Chief Justice Isaac Amit said during a High Court hearing that "from the incident with Efi Naveh at the time, I learned that all his power stemmed from the politicians on the committee. There were Minister Shaked, Minister Kahlon and Knesset members. Efi Naveh alone could not have done anything without the politicians. Anyone who was familiar would have reached the opposite conclusion – maybe we should remove two politicians from the committee, not lawyers." The High Court is currently hearing petitions regarding an amendment to the Basic Law that stipulates that members of the Bar Association will not be able to participate in the deliberations of the Judicial Selection Committee.
