Legionella bacteria discovered in water system at HaEmek Medical Center

Legionella bacteria, which can cause pneumonia if contracted, was discovered in the water system of HaEmek Medical Center in Afula. The hospital reported that during routine testing, anomalies were found in sampling results in an area used by staff and not directly by patients. The bacteria naturally resides in water sources. The hospital added that the water infrastructure at the site is currently undergoing treatment in accordance with Health Ministry guidelines. There is no concern for illness and the treatment is expected to be completed in the morning hours.
