The bill preventing the employment of education workers with academic degrees from institutions in the Palestinian Authority was approved in its second and third readings. 31 Knesset members supported the proposal, against 10 opponents, with one abstention and three who were present in the plenum but did not vote. According to the law, a person with a degree from an academic institution in the Palestinian Authority will not be employed as a teacher, principal or supervisor - and will be considered as not having the required academic degree for employment purposes. The law will not apply to those employed as teachers before it comes into effect. The explanatory notes to the proposal stated: "Academic training in the Palestinian Authority takes place in an environment of incitement against Israel. Therefore, the Knesset Education, Culture and Sports Committee believes that this training is inappropriate and could have a harmful influence on students."
