The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported, citing 'Hamas sources,' that as part of elections held in the Gaza Strip, new leaders were chosen for the terror organization. Khalil al-Hayya was elected as the movement's leader in Gaza, Zaher Jabarin as the West Bank leader and Khaled Mashal as the movement's leader abroad. The elections that took place are considered a prelude to the selection of the head of the movement's political bureau, which will be between Khalil al-Hayya and Khaled Mashal.
