Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara submitted her response to the Supreme Court regarding the petition filed by Minister Dudi Amsalem's lawyer, who demanded a ruling on mandatory military or national service for Israeli Arabs. She clarified that "the government is entitled to change state policy and draft Arabs." She attached a letter from Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs, who claimed there was a "tacit agreement." According to the Attorney General's position, there is "relevant difference" between Israeli Arabs and the ultra-Orthodox, therefore the ruling that will cancel the ultra-Orthodox exemption does not affect all populations in Israel. In contrast, Fuchs argued that "there is no government policy to exempt Arabs from military service, but rather a tacit agreement. The policy belongs to the IDF."
