The State Attorney's Office has filed an appeal with the Lod Central District Court against the lenient sentence of Carol Pesler (82), who was convicted of leaving young Raphael Adana to die. In the appeal notice, the prosecution stated, among other things, that 'the court did not properly apply the Supreme Court's repeated call in its rulings regarding the need for stricter punishment for hit-and-run offenses.' The Petah Tikva Traffic Magistrate's Court sentenced Pesler to only one year of actual imprisonment, along with compensation of 10,000 shekels to the deceased's family and a permanent revocation of her driver's license. It was also noted that the court did not address the fact that Pesler did not take responsibility for her actions, did not save public time when she conducted the trial to its conclusion and also attempted to obstruct the search for truth, as also emerges from the verdict.
