Families of hostages sent a letter to incoming Shin Bet chief General David Zini regarding reports about his positions on hostage release deals and his view of the war as an "eternal war." In the letter, they wrote: "In recent days, statements you made against returning hostages and in favor of continuing the war were published. These words shattered our world. The position of Shin Bet chief is key in determining the fate of our loved ones." The families stated, "After these publications, we expected you to issue clear statements emphasizing your commitment. Unfortunately, you chose deafening silence." The families called on Zini: "Come forward and clarify your commitment to bringing back the hostages."
