Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Israeli President Isaac Herzog during their meeting on the sidelines of the CICA summit in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, that "promoting peace and reconciliation in the region is the cornerstone of China's policy in the Middle East." Yi further stated in the meeting that "China holds a consistent position that the Palestinian issue is the greatest historical injustice of the current century. The immediate priority is the full opening of access to the Gaza Strip. Israel must stop and cancel the forced establishment of settlements in the West Bank."
