Treasury Opposes Law to Raise MK Salaries: 'Such Outlandish Proposals Were Rejected Before'

|
The Ministry of Finance has completely rejected the proposed law, set for discussion in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation, which would equate ministers' and MKs' salaries with judges' salaries, as revealed by ynet. Treasury officials stated that this proposal has been raised multiple times over the years in identical form - and was almost always shelved. Senior Treasury officials said there is no logical reason to increase ministers' salaries, especially not to match judges' salaries, which are intentionally high worldwide to prevent any temptation for judges to accept compensation for rulings and to prevent even the possibility of financial hardship.
