Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met in Sharm el-Sheikh Thursday to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian arena, as well as the aftermath of the Tel Aviv suicide bombing last Friday.
Abbas arrived in Egypt following his meeting at the London conference ,aimed at garnering support for the new Palestinian state. Abbas had also met senior European Union official in Brussels.
Abbas and Mubarak discussed the renewal of dialog between the Palestinian factions, set to take place on March 15th in Egypt.
In recent days, problems have arisen in trying to get the organizations to meet for another round of talks, which had originally been scheduled to take place several days ago.
Talks are expected to center around the fragile truce between Israel and the Palestinians, which was violated by the terror bombing in Tel Aviv. The claiming of responsibility by the Islamic Jihad
had stalled the talks.
Palestinian National Security Advisor Jibril Rajoub
said recently he would meet the heads of the Palestinian factions in Damascus.
Meanwhile, the Yemenite news agency reported Abbas and Hamas political department head Khaled Mashal
are set to meet in Yemen in the coming weeks. The two are expected to present a united front in a bid to strengthen the cease-fire.
