VIDEO - Air Force bombards Gaza: IDF warplanes attacked Palestinian Authority infrastructures early Wednesday in the framework of operation “Summer Rains.”
The operation began with an aerial attack on three central Gaza bridges and a power station; three turbines and a fuel reserve caught fire (as seen in attack video), and Palestinian firefighters had a hard time putting it out. Vast areas in Gaza were blacked out as a result of the attack.
Following the attack humanitarian organizations expressed fears that daily life in the Strip may be disrupted as a result of the attack on the power station, as all water pipes in Gaza run on electricity.
IDF sources said the military activity up to this point was aimed at harming terror infrastructures involved either directly or indirectly with the kidnapping of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
IDF ground forces have been relying on aerial images supplied by the Air Force to make their way through the tiny Strip.
Meanwhile Palestinian sources reported of ultrasonic booms created by aircraft flying over Gaza, adding that the aerial operations have caused Palestinians to flee the Rafah area and head westward in droves.
