French divers sought in vain on Thursday for the body of a missing Israeli diplomat, whose abandoned car was discovered at the edge of the River Seine in the northwestern city of Rouen.
The police divers trawled the freezing river for 90 minutes under the bridge where David Dahan's car was discovered on Wednesday. Investigators from Paris and Israeli embassy staff were in Rouen to assist in the search.
The police told AFP the underwater search could continue on January 29 but not before because of tidal problems.

Dahan, 54, went missing on Sunday night from his flat near the Israeli embassy in Paris. Israeli newspaper Maariv said he was known to be be depressed over his wife's recent petition for divorce.
David Dahan's car was found by the river Seine in the northern city of Rouen on Wednesday with no signs of violence to the vehicle, the source said. Divers were due to search a nearby stretch of the river.
On Tuesday, a police source said Dahan, who had not been seen since the weekend, had left notes that indicated he might have been considering suicide.
One police source said Dahan had asked for "forgiveness" in one letter, adding that he had suffered depression in the past.
Dahan lived in Paris but his wife and child lived in Israel.
Israel's Foreign Ministry declined comment on the case on Tuesday. The Defense Ministry said it would release any new information after Dahan's family had received it.
