The top Hizbullah
commander in southern Lebanon, Nabil Qaouk, slammed Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's government on Sunday and accused him of trying to save Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ata time when he has been greatly weakened by the harsh Winograd report.
“While the entire Arab world celebrates the Winograd report ,the group in power (a derogatory nickname for the government) panicked. Should the resistance be rewarded with a government that is more hostile than the Israeli entity?" he said at a memorial event.
“This victory is only getting greater and greater, and its magnitude is slowly being revealed,” Qaouk said.
“However, just as this victory is undermining Israel’s foundations, we are sorry to see that the government is making statements that are worse even than those made by the Israelis – and all this because they (Lebanese government) bet on the resistance’s defeat due to their commitment to the Americans that it would be disarmed.”
The Hizbullah commander continued that “the resistance is only growing stronger” and is gaining public and political support “despite all the knives being stuck in its back.”
Hizbullah deputy secretary-general Sheikh Naim Qassem told Al-Jazeera over the weekend that the group has rebuilt itself and is “ready for another Israeli attack.”
"We have completed ... our groundwork in preparing our men, as well as our land, so that we will be ready if the Israeli (government) thought one day of launching another attack,” he said.
