The ministerial committee in charge implementing the Winograd Commission's recommendations on Wednesday decided on a number of steps aimed at widening the ministers’ knowledge base, reaffirming the status of the National Security Council (NCS) and establishing a national crisis center.
According to the committee, which is headed by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ,the center will be responsible for assisting the PM and for setting up a situation room during times of crisis.
The center, which will be run by the NSC, will be tasked with presenting the country’s leaders with an updated situation report and help them communicate their orders and instructions to the relevant sources outside the center.
Senior officials will also be able to use the center for distributing communiqués to media outlets in Israel and abroad.
It was further decided that the head of the NCS will work directly under the prime minister and that the council will offer policy recommendations in times of need.
