IDF kills 2 gunmen in Nablus

Army operation in Nablus refugee camp continues; two gunmen killed and 12 wanted Palestinians arrested since forces entered area. Abbas spokesman says 'Israel is responsible for continuing the cycle of violence and bloodshed'
Efrat Weiss |Updated:
The IDF continued to operate Wednesday in the Ein Beit Ilam refugee camp in Nablus, where Sergeant Ben-Zion Haim Henman, 22, of Moshav Nov in the Golan Heights was killed the day before and another soldier was moderately wounded.
A Hamas operative, Adiv Salim, was killed by IDF fire during the morning. Adiv is the brother of Jamal Salim, one of Hamas' prominent leaders, who was killed at the beginning of the intifada.
On Tuesday, forces killed a Popular Front gunman in the refugee camp.
The Palestinian Authority on Wednesday condemned the ongoing operation in Nablus. A spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas said the operation was "an attempt to sabotage US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's visit to the region."
"The policy of destroying, killing and harming the Palestinian people contradicts US, Arab and international efforts to secure the peace process. Israel is responsible for continuing the cycle of violence and bloodshed."
The IDF operation in the area was launched Monday night in response to several intelligence warnings, regarding intended terror attacks on Israelis during the Jewish holidays. Paratrooper, Haruv and Border Guard forces have been operating in the refugee camp and have already arrested 12 wanted Palestinians.
Full closure has been imposed on the camp.
