Sources from the State Prosecutor's Office believe Attorney General Menachem Mazuz will announce over the next 10 days his decision to open criminal investigations against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in the Small Business Authority and Investments Center affairs.
Mazuz is looking into the affairs, which could lead to an unprecedented situation in which the prime minister is under three simultaneous criminal investigations.
The prime minister is already under criminal investigation in the matter of the privatization of Bank Leumi .
State Prosecutor Eran Shendar was put on the Bank Leumi case, after Mazuz removed himself from the affair for fear of a conflict of interest since his sister is the Finance Ministry's legal advisor.
Regarding Olmert's involvement in the purchase of an apartment on Cremieux Street in Jerusalem, it seems Mazuz's office is leaning toward closing the case, due to lack of evidence. If the decision to close the case is made, it is likely that the matter will reach the High Court of Justice.
The situation regarding the Small Business Authority and the Investment Center is quite different.
The Small Business Authority case refers to two project managers who received NIS 500,000 ($123,000) each on projects in the Negev that were never executed.
Prosecution sources claimed those involved in the affair tried to cover up their activity.
The Investments Center affair ,as revealed by State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss, refers to suspicions of criminal activity between Olmert and his friend and lawyer, Uri Messer, when Olmert allegedly helped grant favors to a factory represented by his former partner Messer.
