High Court defers evacuation of disputed Hebron house

Court suspends Civil Administration's decision to remove Jewish residents from house allegedly owned by local Palestinian

The High Court of Justice ruled this weekend that the evacuation of a house in Hebron that has been taken over by settlers would be postponed until a High Court hearing is held to discuss the matter.
The house has been the center of a bitter dispute between local Palestinians and the settlers living in the house, with both sides claiming ownership of the property.
Two weeks ago, the Civil Administration in the West Bank announced its intention to evacuate the house's Jewish inhabitants. In response, the council of the Jewish community in Hebron filed a petition to the High Court against the decision to evacuate the residents.
The affair began on March this year, when hundreds of yeshiva students entered a Palestinian house near Hebron, claiming that they own the deed to the house. However, a Palestinian resident of the West Bank town also asserted ownership of the property.
The Civil Administration has since then issued several evacuation orders for the Jewish settlers, but the latter contested them in court and have been able to prevent plans to remove them from the house so far.
