Armed men kidnap Israeli in Ghana

Israeli businessman in his 60s apparently held since earlier this week; abductors demand large ransom

Armed gunmen in Ghana kidnapped an Israeli citizen, in his sixties, earlier this week, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported Friday. The kidnappers are demanding hundreds of thousands of dollars in ransom money.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yossi Levy refused to confirm details during a conversation with Ynet, since the ministry worries that publication may exacerbate the situation and is, thus, trying to maintain a low profile.
The kidnapping in Ghana was reported by the man's business partner. It appears that he is the one in contact with the kidnappers at this time.
According to the Yedioth Ahranoth report, the kidnappers at first demanded half a million dollars, but have since lowered their demands to $300,000.
Africa has proven itself to be dangerous for Israeli businessmen. In late September, 60-year-old Ehud Avni was abducted from a parking lot in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt.
He was held hostage for almost two weeks before being released, with kidnappers demanding the exorbitant sum of $12 million in ransom.
