Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro revealed in a new book that when he was being vetted as a potential running mate for Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential race, her screening team asked him whether he had ever served as a "double agent for Israel," according to the New York Times. Shapiro describes the question as "particularly offensive" and writes that he wondered if the "intensive" investigation into his positions on Israel stemmed from him being the only Jewish candidate on the final shortlist for the position. According to him, the vetting process was tense and he felt uncomfortable with the questions from Harris's advisers, who he claims were looking for a vice president who would "provide absolute support and not a consultation partner."
