Palestinians aim for massive pastry record

Bakers make extra-large version of cheese pastry; measurements certified by Palestinian Standards Institute
Associated Press|
Palestinian bakers have made an extra-large version of a local pastry, hoping to set a record and boost the reputation of this West Bank economic hub.
Their kunafa - a mix of vermicelli, syrup and cheese - weighs 1,765 kilos (3,891 lbs) and is 74 meters (243 feet) long.
The measurements were certified by the Palestinian Standards Institute, and organizers say they'll submit the results to the Guinness Book of World Records.
The kunafa tray was laid out on a table in Nablus' main square Saturday and was devoured by tens of thousands of visitors drawn to the city.
Once a militant stronghold, Nablus over the past two years has become a showcase for the Palestinian government's efforts to restore law and order.
