A 36-year-old man was killed in a fight outside of a Tel Aviv nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning. Two of his friends were injured in the brawl and evacuated to the city's Sourasky Medical Center in moderate and light condition.
Police believe the man was killed by a stone that hit his head. Officers closed the street following the incident and detained several people for questioning.
Around 3:30 am, police received reports of an altercation outside a nightclub on Carlebach Street. After collecting initial testimonies, police believe two groups of people were involved in the fight, and that the victim and his friends either exited the club in order to confront the other gang or tried to flee following a brawl that broke out inside the club.
At one point during the altercation, the man was hit in the head with a stone and collapsed in the middle of the street, losing a large amount of blood.
Paramedic Amit Nuriani, who arrived at the site shortly after the fight broke out, told Ynet, "When we got there, we found a man sprawled on the ground. He had a serious head injury, from which he lost a lot of blood, and his friend was kneeling beside him trying to wake him up.
"We started to administer first aid and CPR, but shortly afterwards we were forced to pronounce him dead. There were two other men injured, one in moderate condition, and the other in light condition," he added.
The lively nightspot was quickly silenced and was sealed off by police tape. Forensics experts investigated the victim's body.
Chief Superintendent Danny Levy, commander of Tel Aviv's Lev Police Station, told Ynet, "We received a report about a brawl around 3:25 am. Squad cars deployed to the scene found the deceased and other people injured. We believe the incident originated in a nearby nightclub, and continued here."
He added, "The deceased is known to us, but it seems this was a nightclub fight. He sustained a heavy blow to his head, and this is what caused his death."
Police detained several people for questioning, but so far, no suspects have been arrested.
