Arrow 3, the next generation in advanced interception systems was presented on Wednesday by the Israel Aerospace Industries. The new model's main improvement is its ability to intercept ballistic missiles at higher altitudes than before.
The new development will give more interception opportunities against missiles launched at Israel ,in case the first attempt fails. The new system will be incorporated into the existing systems from the arrow's previous generations. 📷Arrow 3 missile interception system
Head of development for Arrow 3 Inbal Kreis said during a military technologies convention that the new generation Arrow is slated to be tested at the beginning of 2011.
Kreis added that the missile can alter its trajectory while in the air, which gives it an additional advantage over missiles launched toward Israel.
Another advantage mentioned was the ability to launch the Arrow 3 from advanced missile boats.
Recently, a lab test for multilayer interception was conducted. The experiment, which was first of its kind, was meant to examine integrated operation of several missile and rocket active defense systems.
