While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in the US for talks with senior Obama administration officials, the Jerusalem District Planning and Construction Committee approved on Monday the construction of 32 housing units in the eastern part of Pisgat Ze'ev, a neighborhood located beyond the Green Line.
The plan was approved just hours before Netanyahu was expected to meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York.
The new construction in Pisgat Ze'ev is part of a broader plan to build 220 housing units in the neighborhood.
The international community considers any construction there to be a violation of the status quo in the capital.
The Jerusalem Municipality said on Sunday it is "continuing to build throughout the city for all sectors."
