The detention of the driver suspected of fatally running over 17-year-old Amichai Atia has been extended until next Tuesday. Atia was struck in the parking lot of the Beach Village shopping complex in Hadera on the previous night. Eyewitnesses reported that the incident was preceded by a confrontation between the driver, a resident of the village of Manda, and worshippers at a Selichot service. The suspect's father requested in a conversation with ynet 'to stop inciting against his son.' The suspect's mother said: 'My heart is with the bereaved mother on the other side. My son fell victim to major incitement. He was raised to love his fellow man. They almost lynched him, they shot at him because they thought he was a terrorist.'
