|
The Israeli Embassy in Poland inaugurated Israel's first honorary consulate in Gdansk, a move that will strengthen Israel's presence in the northern part of the country and open the door to new collaborations in the fields of economy, science, academia and culture. Anna Owruszko-Chichowska, a businesswoman from the city of Sopot, was appointed Israel's honorary consul in the region, which will include the provinces of Pomerania, West Pomerania and Warmia-Masuria. The consulate will work to promote ties between institutions, business communities and civil society organizations, alongside strengthening relations with Jewish communities and preserving Jewish heritage in the region. Israeli Ambassador to Poland Yaakov Finkelstein described the opening of the consulate as a "historic event." The ceremonial event was attended by senior Polish government officials, local authority representatives, businesspeople and representatives of the Jewish community.
