The U.S. Treasury Department announced that the United States has imposed new sanctions against 115 individuals, entities and vessels connected to Iran. The department's statement noted that the sanctions were primarily directed against the economic interests of Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of Ali Shamkhani - a close adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who was severely wounded in an Israeli assassination attempt during the war with Iran. The Americans also stated that these are "the most significant sanctions imposed against entities linked to Iran since 2018, during Trump's first term."
