Knesset member Yuli Edelstein, who was removed from his position as chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee amid disputes over the draft exemption law, responded to the publication of the updated draft law: "As someone who has led efforts to expand the IDF recruitment base over the past two years - I say with great regret, this is not a draft law. After the terrible failure of October 7, we promised the public that what was will not be what will be. Unlike the version I proposed, the proposed law does not address the needs of the IDF in any way. This is another political bandaid instead of a historic law. We will not give up. We will fight to the end for a real draft law."
