US vetoes UN resolution demanding Gaza ceasefire

The United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution demanding a swift and unconditional end to the war in Gaza, as well as the immediate and unconditional release of hostages. The proposal received support from 14 countries. This marks the sixth time the US has used its veto power on this issue since the outbreak of the "Iron Swords" war. Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon criticized the resolution: "For some council members this is a performance, for Israel this is daily reality. The proposal was presented without condemning Hamas, without condemning the October 7 massacre, and without demanding Hamas disarm. This isn't diplomacy, it's surrender."
