Firefighting teams in New Zealand are battling a massive fire in Tongariro National Park, located in the center of the North Island. The fire is raging across an area estimated by emergency teams at about 1,000 hectares, which is approximately 10,000 dunams. About 40 hikers were evacuated from the park by air rescue, and so far there is no known damage to infrastructure and no casualties have been reported. Six helicopters, six fire trucks, five water tankers and two aircraft are participating in the firefighting efforts.
