The suspect in the murder of 75-year-old Rabbi Amos Goata in Netanya also tried to stab the sexton at the kollel. Rabbi Goata was in his bed at the time of the murder. In 2009, another murder occurred at the kollel when David Manishrov was killed by another student. Netanya Mayor Avi Selma eulogized Rabbi Goata: "For many years, he illuminated the path of thousands of residents, brought hearts closer, strengthened souls and was an address for advice, blessings and salvation for thousands of families in Israel and around the world."
