9 injured in fire at Maasiyahu Prison

Cellblock 14 detainees set fire to mattresses in protest of incarceration. Flames spiral out of control injuring nine; one crittical, two in serious condition

Nine detainees at Maasiyahu Prison's Cellblock 14 were injured Thursday, after a fire they set in protest of their incarcerationan and in attempt to bar prison guards from entering the cellblock, spiraled out of control.
The guards were eventually able to gain access to the cells and rescue the prisoners. One of the prisoners is in critical condition, two were seriously injured, three suffered moderate injuries and two were lightly hurt.
The injured were rushed to Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Zerifin and Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot.
Prison authorities are investigating.
