MK Peled shortlisted for new Home Front Defense minister

Likud minister and former GOC Northern Command said to be leading candidate to take over from Matan Vilnai

Minister without portfolio Yossi Peled (Likud )is the leading candidate to for the post of minister for home front defense, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday.

Current Home Front Defense Minister Matan Vilnai has been named Israel 'snew ambassador to China. The nomination has been confirmed by the Civil Service Commission and is now pending a government vote.
Peled holds the rank of general (Ret.) and served as the IDF 'sGOC Northern Command in his last post.
  • He is said to have a good personal relationship with Defense Minister Ehud Barak who, according to the report, believes that Peled's vast military experience qualifies him for the ministerial position.
