At around 11:30 am a siren was heard in Beersheba and the Bnei Shimon Regional Council, while the "Color Red" alert system was activated in a number of Israeli communities surrounding the Gaza Strip.
Beersheba's mayor stressed that the southern city did not suffer a direct hit.
- Omer resident Hagar Shalev told Ynet she was at the parking lot of a large hardware store when its employees were ordered to enter secure rooms. "I stood there with other shoppers; we didn't know what to do, and they locked the (store's) doors on us.
"Then we heard a loud boom. I wasn't frightened. We remained calm," she said.
Tamar, who also lives in Omer, said "the children were a bit scared, but they are used to sirens. We entered the kitchen and waited till we heard the explosions. We won’t let this ruin our Shabbat."
On Friday, a rocket launched from Gaza landed south of Ashkelon. There were no reports of injury or damage in that attack either. A Qassam rocket also landed in the Negev's Eshkol Regional Council, without causing injuries or damage.
