Dichter drops Kadima chairmanship bid; endorses Mofaz

MK Dichter announces support for Kadima Chairwoman Tzipi Livni's rival in party primaries; says: 'These primaries are on the future of the party'

MK Avi Dichter officiallyannounced Thursday his withdrawal from the Kadima chairmanship race, and his support for one of the frontrunners, Shaul Mofaz.

Dichter said that after taking into consideration his chances of winning, he decided to join forces with Mofaz and to support him in the race. "I know him for 20 years, and we have always been fair with one another," said Dichter.

Mofaz commented that Dichter's decision will strengthen the party and prevent it from being split. Livni's headquarters responded that the union reflects the strength ofcurrent chairperson,Livni ,within the party. "Mofaz will become a second Netanyahu," they said.
Dichter's announcement followed a growing pressure in the past few days for his withdrawal from the race.
A month ago Former IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz announced his support forMofaz, after his associates said he has recruited hundreds of new members to the party.
