Ibrahim's cousin said that the wife was not given any trouble by Syrian authorities despite the raging civil war in the country, which could have hampered the reunion. "From what I understood, everything went smoothly. Not everything you see on TV is true," he said.

Ibrahim Nidal, assistant to Deputy Minister Ayoob Kara, who helped the couple with the bureaucracy involved in the process, said that "after receiving the wife's security clearance, a request was made to the Israeli Red Cross, which then orchestrated the wife's passage with the Syrian Red Cross."
On the Israeli side of the border, the couple was greeted with cries of joy, dancing and singing. However, Ibrahim's wife knows that the possibility of seeing her family back in Syria is slim.
"She will only be able to meet her family in Jordan. That is why she is crying," explained one family member.
