Riot breaks out in Jerusalem Magistrate's Court during parole hearing for hunger-striking prisoner released in Shalit deal

A riot broke out at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court on Tuesday involving the family of a security prisoner released as part of the Shalit deal and the court's security guards. One family member was arrested.

The prisoner, Samer Issawi, has been on hunger strike for the past 140 days, according to his lawyer, and was brought to the court on a wheelchair. He is being charged with parole violation.
  • As the hearing began, Issawi's family members began to shout and became unruly. Security guards and Prison Service attendants tried to remove them from the room but a scuffle soon broke out.

The guards eventually managed to remove the family from the room. The hearing was later stopped as Issawi was carried out of the room to be taken for a medical examination.
Also Tuesday, clashes broke out at a Tel Aviv court involving the families of Chairman of the Jaffa Orthodox Church Association Attorney Gabriel Cadis who was murdered last July and the defendants in the case.

A large scuffle broke out after the testimony of a member of the Jaffa Orthodox Church Association, which contained many discrepancies.
The rioters were then removed from the court at the judges' orders.
