A volunteer in the Israel Police's Traffic Department was moderately injured Friday afternoon when he was hit by a car while trying to rescue a cat on the Ayalon Freeway.
The volunteer was evacuated to the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center. The cat was removed from the busy road unharmed.

- The incident began when a woman traveling on the highway spotted a cat wandering on the road after the Komemiyut Interchange. Fearing that the cat would be run over, she stopped at the side of the road in a bid to rescue it and alerted the police's Traffic Department.
In the meantime, the cat crawled under the hood of the woman's car.

A police car with two volunteers arrived at the scene as the catemerged from under the car. While the volunteers attempted to capture the cat, one of them was hit by a car, sustaining moderate wounds.
The driver involved in the accident, a 17-year-old youth from Rishon Lezion, was detained for questioning.
The cat was later captured and examined by a veterinary physician.
