The Jerusalem police and municipality decided to increase security in the capital Tuesday following the deadly terrorist attack at a synagogue in Har Nof in which four were killed and seven wounded.
Among the steps taken, thorough security checks will be conducted at the exits of Arab neighborhoods in the capital, increase security in educational facilities and recruit more volunteers for the Civil Guard.
A series of terror attacks in Jerusalem has eroded the capital residents' sense of security, which police has been trying to restore by increasing its presence in the city, raising its level of alertness and refreshing instructions and orders.
In addition to the increase in security forces, Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich instructed to deploy four additional Border Police battalions to Jerusalem.

"We decided to conduct an extensive campaign to recruit volunteers for Jerusalem's Civil Guard," Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said at the end of a situation assessment with Police Commissioner Lieutenant Yohanan Danino and Jerusalem District Commander Moshe Edri.
"I call on the citizens of Jerusalem to volunteer and strengthen the civilian aid to security forces," Barkat said.
Volunteering for the Civil Guard will be done with the help of community heads in the different neighborhoods. The City Hall and police called on anyone licensed to carry arms to contact the community heads and join the volunteer security force.
