Raz Hershko, competing in the women's open weight category (over 78 kg), advanced to the semifinals at the World Judo Championships taking place in Baku and needs one more victory to secure a medal at the championships. The Israeli opened her campaign with a victory over Taiwan's Ling Fang Chang, after executing a throw and winning with an ippon after just one minute and 50 seconds. In the third round, Hershko defeated Estonia's Emma-Meriis Aktas, thanks to a yuko in the golden score. In the quarterfinals, she overcame Brazil's Souza, after her opponent accumulated three penalties.
